New Hope itinerary scene

Weekend itinerary

Gallery streets by day, river light at dusk

Walk the towpath until the river opens up between the trees, then give the rest of the day to gallery doors, bridge light, and a dinner you can walk home from.

By Cal Mercer — a Second Star Guide itinerary

Cross the free bridge on foot between New Hope and Lambertville; check current bridge alerts before the trip.

Best length

2 nights

Two nights leave one full day for both river towns and a separate half-day for Fonthill Castle, Peddler's Village, or a covered-bridge drive.

Stay

Logan Inn

A central New Hope inn with roots dating to 1727, steps from Main Street, the Bucks County Playhouse, and the free bridge to Lambertville.

Main activity

the Delaware riverfront, Main Street, and the Lambertville bridge

The dependable Saturday route links the New Hope riverfront, Main Street, the free bridge, and Lambertville; canal access depends on current closure notices.

Trip shape

Two downtowns and one county drive

Saturday belongs to the riverfront, Main Street, and Lambertville on foot. Sunday is for one Bucks County stop after checkout.

Start at the Playhouse riverfront, follow Main Street north, cross the pedestrian bridge to Bridge and Union streets, and add a canal out-and-back only after checking current towpath notices.

Afternoon

Browse New Hope Arts and side-street galleries.

New Hope Arts and the side streets off Main Street reward a slower afternoon before showering and a reserved dinner or curtain time.

Sunday

Coffee, checkout, and one Bucks County stop on the way home.

After Reed's or another Main Street breakfast, choose Fonthill Castle for Mercer's tilework, Peddler's Village for shops and lunch, or a short covered-bridge loop—not all three.

9:00 AM

Sunday morning

Coffee, checkout, and one last river walk

Start with breakfast on Main Street, then drive to Fonthill Castle or Peddler's Village while checkout gear is still in the car.
